Everybody Needs An Ally

February 2026 Blog Post by Pastor Bec

Recently, I got to be a witness of an important and long-awaited reunion. Reconciliation. Restoration. These are powerful words in which the God I serve excels. And thanks to His orchestration, when I attended this very special reunion, the key participants had a very instrumental ally. We’ll call her Allie for the remainder of this post.

It was very helpful that Allie was there. In what could have been a tense situation, her presence was the loving, gentle, historical relationship which calmed hearts and brought unity. Her peaceful presence was not only a welcome addition to the party, but she also, very subtly, echoed similar thoughts and beliefs to her friends. She affirmed their thinking, without being obvious about it. Afterwards, as they celebrated the sweetness and relief of this coming together, I found myself thinking, “Everyone Needs An Allie.”

A strong ally like Allie is someone you can count on just like the dawn of a new day. This stunning event occurs every morning but most of us take it for granted. The sunrise. The dawn.

The Bible often symbolizes hope with dawn. New beginnings. Mercy. Restoration. Spiritual light. I don’t know about you, but I have found that in the deepest, darkest times of struggle and challenge and despair, there must be hope. Otherwise, things seem hopeless. There must be a dawn. Sometimes we need that special ally to remind us of the dawn.

Lamentations is a book written by the prophet Jeremiah which, yes, is about lamenting. His beloved city was overtaken and people taken away as slaves. He is known at “the weeping prophet” and wasn’t afraid to admit his sorrow at what had happened. And yet, in the midst of it all, he went (at God’s direction) and bought a field! A hopeful action.

So when he writes the following words in Lamentations 3:22-23, we can know he has earned the right to speak them: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

The Psalmist also assures us in 30:5, “… weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Yes God will turn that sorrow into joy. It just might take a while. Our role, meanwhile, is to not give up. To trust that He is “working all things together for those who love Him…” (Romans 8:28) To have hope.

Faith in God and belief and trust in our ultimate ally Jesus will get us through the most difficult and discouraging of times. I invite you to invite Christ into your life if you haven’t already. And then, don’t be afraid to lean on Him. Lean into Him. Especially when life hurts.

Like Allie, Jesus is also our Advocate. He loves to speak up on our behalf. In fact, He went to the cross for that purpose. Therefore, don’t be afraid to hope. Look for (the) dawn! “Put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.” (Psalm 130:7)

Thank you for reminding us that we have an Ally/Allie, indeed! Great is Thy Faithfulness is my favorite hymn! Heartache and discouragement seem to be worse in the evenings which is why I’m so thankful for each new Dawn… and the Hope it brings with the Sun (through THE Son :). Thanks, Pastor Bec, for this great reminder!!
